[Class 27.] Coin action, mechanical-connection and with delivery proportionate to value of coin.-In a prepayment gas or like meter adapted for operations by the insertion of coins of different denominations, the coins, pennies or shillings are inserted through a slot b<2>, Fig. 4, in a pricechange disc b forming the cover for a cylindrical vertical casing a, Fig. 2, containing two measuring wheels d, e of different diameters to be engaged and ariven by pennies and shillings respectively. The coins drop between a pair of guiding brackets c' pendent from a disc c rotatable by a vertical handle c<1>, or by an horizontally arranged handle c<1x> which rotates the plate c through gears c<3>, c<4>, Fig. 6. The coins rest between their respective wheels and the vertical wall a<1> of the casing a, and are carried round to a discharge slot in the bottom plate of the casing by the brackets c<7>. Plates d<2>, e<1> carried by the wheels d, e prevent halfpennies or sixpences from engaging with and' driving these wheels. A conical or rounded plate d<1> on the upper surface of the wheel d directs the coins into proper driving position. The wheel d is fixed on a spindle g<1> having a bearing in the bottom plate of the casing and in the axle c<5> of the plate c. The spindle g<1> has a wheel g meshing with the large wheel g<2> of a compound wheel g<2>, m<1> which is provided with V-teeth g<3> to operate usual screw-and-nut quantity mechanism controlling the gas valve. The wheel e is fixed to a sleeve loose on the spindle g<1> and having a wheel m meshing with the wheel m<1>, the gearing being such that the compound wheel is rotated twelve times as much for a shilling as for a penny. Coin-discharging mechanism.-Springs f<1>, f<2> carried by an upstanding arm f ensure the ejection of the coins from the wheels through the discharge slot.
