[Class 83 (ii).] Metal-link belts of the kind in which the cartridges themselves form the hinge pins, have the middle portion of each link strengthened by a web 5 arranged normal to and across the belt between adjacent cartridges. The link shown in plan in Fig. 6 and in section in Fig. 5 is formed from a sheet-metal blank, as shown in Fig. 7. The centre portion 45 of the blank is bent to form a two-fold web 5 of T-section, the parts 53, 54 of the blank being bent round the ends of the web to form guides for the cartridges in the loops 31, 32. A portion 57 of the blank is pressed out to form a guide for the cartridge in the loop 30. The loops are strengthened by pressed ribs 35, 36, 37 and a pressing 40 engages the extraction groove of the cartridge to retain the cartridge in the belt. Fig. 10 shows a modification in which the link is formed by milling slits 60, 61 in a thickened blank, the solid portion x forming the web and the bifurcated portions being bent to form the loops.
