Abstract

389,954. Hooks. FRASER, J., 5, Cowie Road, Parnell, Auckland, New Zealand. Jan. 29,1932, No. 2699. [Class 89 (ii).] A safety-cargo hook comprises a main portion 1 and a guard 2 which pivots on the bush 4 designed in one position to close the hook 1. It is moved to open the hook mouth by retracting through openings in the guard a spring-loaded pawl 10 housed in the guard from engagement with a ratchet tooth 12 cut in the head of the hook 1 and swinging the guard about its pivot, the guard being retained in its open position by releasing the pawl to engage with a second ratchet tooth. A spring- pressed ball 16 assists in keeping the guard open.
