389,490. Driving - belts. FREEDLANDER, A. L., 522, Grand Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A. Sept. 15, 1931, No. 25857. Convention date, July 13. [Class 80 (i).] Driving-belts, for example of rubber 4, layers of rubberized fabric 5, rubberembedded cords 6, and rubberized fabric 7, with or without a rubber wrapping 13, or alternatively containing balata or leather, are formed, stretched, frozen, and vulcanized, the vulcanizing operation being started before the belt thaws. Preferably the belt is formed on a mandrel and cut into endless sections, which are stretched, frozen by a carbon dioxide packing or spray, wrapped while stretched and frozen, and then vulcanized. Alternatively the wrapping may precede the stretching. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the neutral axis 6 of the belt may alone be frozen, the other materials being rapidly built thereon and vulcanization started before 'the cords 6 can thaw and contract. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
