Abstract

An emulsion suitable for sizing artificial silk is made by adding molten resin to an aqueous emulsion of wax and dextrin. Emulsifying agents such as gums, for example gum arabic and gum from the carob tree, fecula and glucose and also albumen or gelatine may be added. An aqueous solution of gum from the carob tree is mixed with a solution of Marseilles soap in water and glucose and gum arabic are added. The solution is heated and molten bees wax is poured in while stirring. Fecula, a solution of dextrin neutralized with sodium carbonate and albumen are then added. Molten pine resin is then poured, while stirring, into the warmed liquid to form an emulsion. Specification 371,786 is referred to.ALSO:A sizing-composition, particularly for artificial silk in warp or hank form, is made by adding molten resin to an aqueous emulsion of wax and dextrin. Emulsifying-agents such as gums, for examples gum arabic and gum from the carob tree, fecula, and glucose, and also albumen or gelatine may be added. An aqueous solution of gum from the carob tree is mixed with a solution of Marseilles soap in water and glucose and gum arabic are added. The solution is heated and molten beeswax is poured in while stirring. Fecula, a solution of dextrin neutralized with sodium carbonate and albumen are then added. Molten pine resin is then poured, while stirring, into the warmed liquid to form an emulsion. The size may be removed by hot soapy water. Specification 371,786 is referred to.
