Abstract

<PICT:0388603/III/1> In a crystallizer or like heat-exchange apparatus comprising a vessel 1 having one or more coiled pipes 8, 9, 10 for the circulation of heating or cooling medium arranged to rotate relatively to the vessel 1, the pipes are coiled to extend intermittently from the centre to the outside of the vessel and to progress from point to point along each pipe constantly forwards along the axis of the vessel. A central hollow axis 2 is connected to a driving shaft and to the coiled pipe sections. Flow of the material through the vessel may be assisted by a solid bar conveyer spiral 12. Different methods of coiling the pipes are described.
