388,467. Grinding. SCHULTE, H., 18, Fuchsbach; Flomersheim, Frankenthal, Germany. Oct. 5, 1931, No. 27592. [Class 60.] In a machine for grinding forme cylinders, the cylinder 1 is supported by bearings 2, 3 carried by parts 4, 5 forming the sides of a trough containing a liquid, which may be water, or a liquid which attacks the metal of the cylinder, for example iron chloride solution, and a further support 7, movable on surfaces 6, is provided for shorter cylinders. On a guide 12 is a slide 13 movable by means of a screw 14, which may be driven in either direction by open and crossed belts 15, 16 from a shaft 22, from which the cylinder also is driven ; and on the slide 13 is a vertically movable slide 30 adjustable by a hand-wheel 53 and rack gearing 54 and carrying two grinding wheels 31, 32 having operative surfaces of truncated conical shape. The wheels 31, 32 and their spindles 36, 41 are independently adjustable by hand-wheels and worm gearing ; the spindles are driven through worm gearing 43 .. 46 by an electric motor and converge upwardly in a vertical plane. The axes of the spindles are displaced from the centre line of the cylinder ; the wheels 31, 32 are secured to discs, mounted on the spindles, by claws 35. The mechanism for simultaneous vertical adjustment of the wheels includes a differential gearing, which may be locked for allowing rapid adjustment.
