Abstract

A medicinal preparation, particularly for the treatment of piles, is obtained by heating rock alum in a crucible or kiln at about 106 DEG F. until a scum or efflorescence is formed on the surface of the lumps, removing said efforescence, and powdering the lumps. During the heat treatment, the mass of the material is reduced by 8-10 per cent; it is believed that the efflorescence contains impurities. The powder may be taken internally in milk or water, or may be applied externally as a powder or combined with binding or agglutinant means. It may also be dissolved, and applied as a lotion.ALSO:A medicinal preparation, particularly for the treatment of piles, is obtained by heating rock alum in a crucible or kiln at about 106 DEG F. until a scum or efflorescence is formed on the surface of the lumps, removing said efflorescence, and powdering the lumps.
