Abstract
269,878. Metallbank und Metallurgische Ges., Akt.-Ges. April 22, 1926, [Convention date]. Lithium chloride and sulphate.-The treatment of siliceous materials containing lithium with neutral alkali salts is effected at temperatures of 700-950‹ C., and preferably takes place in a mechanical furnace, such as a mechanical roasting furnace, a rotary drum furnace, or a Dwight-Lloyd furnace, whereby the amount of alkali salt needed is reduced and the subsequent lixiviation may be effected directly, without grinding. When treating lepidolite containing 1.44 per cent lithium with potassium sulphate, a temperature of 880-920‹ C. is employed, whilst when potassium chloride is used, a temperature of 720-750‹ C. is requisite.
