Abstract

387,696. Protective arrangements. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Hull, A. W. ; 1435, Lowell Road, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Aug. 6, 1931, No. 22295. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1930. Addition to 344,092. [Class 38 (iv).] A lightning-arrester as claimed in the parent Specification has the envelope formed in part by one of the electrodes 52 and the other electrode is supported by a re-entrant stem 53. A tubular shield 59 covers the joint between the outer electrode and the glass wall 50. A resistance element 54 of material such as is described in Specification 292,110, [Class 38 (iv), Electric supply and transmission systems &c.], which decreases in resistance with increasing current, may be enclosed in the re-entrant stem 53 accompanied by an insulating fluid such as mineral oil. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 described also an arrangement of arrester tubes according to the parent Specification connected in series and placed within a hollow insulator, the first and last tubes being connected to conducting caps at each end of the insulator, and an arrangement by which the current through an arrester according to the parent Specification generated a magnetic field so arranged with respect to the gap between the electrodes as to exert an interrupting effect upon the current. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
