Abstract

386,209. Stuffing-bos substitutes. CHRISTENSEN, A., 147, Oresundsvoj, Copenhagen. May 27, 1932, No. 15152. [Class 122 (v).] A stuffing-box between a stationary grate 6 and a rotary furnace 4 is adapted to allow ash &c. to fall into a pocket 11 from which it can be removed through an airtight gate 12. The front end of the rotary furnace 4 is encircled by a cylindrical frame 8 built into the rear wall 5 of the stationary f u r - nace and provided at its lower part with holes 9 towards which fine ash is directed by scrapers 10 on the rotary furnace, the ash falling into the pocket 11. Between the frame 8 and an annular rib 14 on the furnace fitted with replaceable sectors 14a a stuffing-box is provided comprising a cylinder 15 axially slidable in a packing ring 16 and fitted at the rear with a ring 19, having replaceable sectors 19a, rotation of the ring being prevented by co-operating devices 22, 23. The ring 19a is pressed upon the rib 14a by plate springs 21. To minimize penetration of ash to the stuffing-box the frame 8 and the rotary furnace are provided with meshing annular ribs 24, 25, and any ash which penetrates is removed through shutters 26.
