Abstract

386,048. Reciprocating pumps. PEARN, H. W. and PEARN & CO., Ltd., F., West Gorton, Manchester. Sept. 30, 1931, No. 27205. [Class 102 (i).] In a direct-acting steam pump employing a differential plunger d, e, the suction valve. box b is arranged coaxial with the cylinder c and the discharge passage is parallel with and integral with the cylinder, with the discharge valve h at right-angles to the cylinder axis. The differential plunger secures a continuous discharge. The suction valve-box b has two openings m, n to permit the attachment of the box with the suction opening k either coaxial with or at rightangles to the barrel c, the opening not in use being closed by a cover p. Each portion of the plunger d, e works through a stuffing-box. The exhaust steam may be discharged into the suction pipe. Specification 221,074, [Class 122 (ii), Steam-engine distributing and expansion valves &c.], is referred to.
