Abstract
385,752. Roving-frames for jute. FRASER, G., FRASER, N., and FRASER, J., Westburn Foundry, Arbroath, Angus. Jan. 14, 1932, No. 1121. [Class 120 (ii).] In roving-frames of the kind used for jute in which the bobbins are positively driven by gearing, the flyers are suspended from driven spindles in a fixed overhead rail 5, and the lifter rail 6 is adapted to be tilted about the axis of a bobbindriving shaft extending between the rows of bobbin spindles from the normal spinning position to that shown in dotted lines to facilitate doffing and reloading. The arrangement permits the drawing-rollers to be arranged so that the paths of the roving 25, 26 are equal. The bobbin spindles may be stationary and act as supports for the bobbins and bobbindrivers. When the flyers are staggered the lifter rail is adapted to be displaced axially during the tilting to enable the rear bobbins to clear the front flyer legs when doffing. As shown, the rail 6 is tilted about the bobbin-driving shaft 7 by means of an attached toothed segment 10 which is concentric with the shaft 7 and operated by a worm 11. Power or handdriven inching-mechanism may be provided to align the flyers to permit the passage of the bobbins, or by disconnecting the main drive of the flyer-driving shaft 23 the operative may rotate all the flyers by operating one of them. The flyers are preferably aligned by reverse rotation so that slack roving is produced and the tilting may take place without straining the roving.
