Abstract

385,684. Cleaning and polishing devices. TURNER, W. H., 23, Ellesmere Road South, Chorlton-cum- Hardy, Manchester. Oct. 3, 1931, No. 27551. [Class 19.] A portable apparatus for cleaning and polishing purposes comprises a rod a carrying at one end an electric motor i and at the other end a gear box b containing reduction gearing for transmitting rotation to a transverse shaft h provided with rotary polishing devices. The gear box contains a worm drive, the worm shaft f<2> being connected to a shaft j which is rotatably mounted in the rod a and is connected to the armature shaft of the motor i. The shaft h is provided with clutch portions adapted to engage corresponding portions s on the devices and with a groove adapted to be engaged by a spring-pressed plunger r. A bracket n provided with blocks o of polishing powder is adjustably mounted on the rod a. In place of the blocks a pad may be provided, the pad being saturated with liquid polishing medium from a reservoir. Change speed gearing may be provided in the gear box b or at the motor. The rod a is provided with handles x and may have an extension v. The polishing device comprises a core q, Figs. 4 and 5, formed on its periphery with longitudinal keyhole slots to receive doubled flaps z of felt, hair, fibre, rubber, leather, velvet, cotton fabric, or like material, the flaps being held in place by rods z<2>. The flaps may be slit as shown at z<1>. The core q is hollow to contain polishing liquid which passes out through holes u. Specification 385,924 is referred to.
