Disc apparatus.-A grinding-machine in which the speed of the traverse of the work and the speed of revolution have a temporarily constant ratio, the value of which ratio may be changed according to the nature of the material being ground, &c., is provided with a scale indicating the length of a traverse for one revolution of the work. The work 1 is driven by a disc 5, which is driven through gearing, from a shaft 4, which drives the table 2 of the machine. The speed of the shaft 4 may be varied by a stepped pulley 3. A change speed gear for varying the traverse per revolution is mounted in a casing 12 on which are divisions 13 indicating, in conjunction with an element controlling the gear, the traverse per revolution of the work
