Abstract

384,047. Railway vehicle undercarriages. CATON, C. H., 6, St. Ives Mount, Armley, near Leeds. Nov. 2, 1931, No. 30269. [Class 103 (vi).] In railway vehicle undercarriages in which the axle is driven by means of a driving chain from the power unit the correct tension of the chain is maintained by adjusting the position of the axle with its axle-box and guiding arrangement. A recess 2 in the undercarriage framing 1 is bridged by a plate 4 having longitudinally slotted apertures 6 for the fixing studs 3, and on at least one side a washer plate 7 is engaged by the studs 3 and carries an adjusting screw 8 engaging by its head 8a or point the plate 6 to adjust the latter longitudinally of the undercarriage. The plate 6 is provided with an aperture 5 adapted to engage the axle-box B and horns B<1> of the axle-box guiding arrangement. The arrangement is such that by removiug the nuts of the fixing studs 3 the axle-box with its axle and the adjusting means may be removed without interfering with the adjustment of the driving chain.
