Abstract

383,575. Sterns. HEPPELL, W. J., Meathfield, Wardley, Pelaw-on-Tyne. June 15, 1932, No. 16926. [Class 113 (ii).] Flow conditions to the propeller are modified by providing a cruiser type stern substantially flat or U-section in transverse cross section but constructionally dipped as at Q, K ahead of and abaft the propeller E. A vertical plate P is arranged close to the propeller and rudders as described in Specifications 317,417, [Class 113 (ii), Ships &c., Kinds &c. of], and 373,172 may be employed. Ships with counter sterns may be provided with external structures to give a cruiser stern with the desired characteristics. Specifications 288,689 and 310,768, [both in Class 113 (ii), Ships &c., Kinds &c. of], also are referred to.
