Abstract
383,505. Vapour burners. ORTLIEB, J., 21, Steinm³hlegasse, Zurich, Switzerland. March 7, 1932, No. 6804. Convention date, March 20, 1931. [Class 75 (i).] In a vapour burning apparatus for cookers, soldering lamps, illuminating lamps, &c. of the kind in which the main burner is heated initially by burning a mixture of air and fuel at an auxiliary burner supplied from a reservoir containing fuel and air under pressure, an obturating cap 20 lined with sealing material 21 is provided for extinguishing the auxiliary burner when the main burner is to be ignited. The auxiliary burner shown consists of a nozzle tube 8 communicating with the air space and a nozzle tube 9 extending to below the fuel level in the reservoir 1. The tube 9 is adjustably supported in the tube 8 by threaded sleeves 12 and is provided at its lower end with a wick filter 14. The obturating member 20 is carried by a lever 22 pivoted on an arm 25 clamped to the tube 8. When a hand-wheel 6 is turned to open the fuel feed valve to the main burner the lever 22 is moved against the resistance of a spring 24 by a lug 27 on the hand-wheel until a dead centre position is passed when the cap is snapped over the tubes 8, 9. The upper end of the tube 9 is slightly below the upper end of the tube 8 so that the fuel in the tube 9 will be returned to the reservoir 1.
