Abstract
383,334. Sluice gates. GLENFIELD & KENNEDY, Ltd. and BORLAND, J. H. T., Kilmarnock. Aug. 27, 1931, No. 24087. [Class 68 (ii).] A weir gate comprises a pivoted section counterbalanced by a suspended upper section. As shown in the Figure, the lower section A consists of steel plates and girders, and is mounted on knife-edged bearings B, and the upper section C, also consisting of plates and girders, is loaded with ballast to form a counterbalance for the section A, to which it is connected by rods E and chains El on pulleys F. The section A is dimensioned and inclined so that the hydraulic load is practically uniform, and as the water level falls the section A rises and the section C falls. The section C may be arranged to lift above the flood level by means of differential pulleys.
