Abstract

In the process of the parent Specification for washing flue gases &c. which is modified by the provision of adding air to the gases before or during treatment, of aerating or otherwise securing an adequate amount of oxygen in the washing liquid or of aerating the effluent, banks of catalytic agents may be included in the path of the gases, which may be subjected to oxidation to convert sulphur dioxide to sulphur trioxide or sulphurous to sulphuric acid by oxides or sulphates of iron in ferric condition or similar salts of manganese &c., either dry or in suspension or solution.
