Abstract

383,301. Ventilated cases for food products. USHER, G. B., Rugby Road, Charlottesville, Virginia, U.S.A. June 20, 1931, No. 17936. [Class 18.] A ventilated packing case &c. for food products adapted to be readily assembled from the folded condition, has four sides 1 of artificial semiflexible material such as fibre board, cardboard, paperboard, millboard, pulpboard or other fibrous sheet cellulose material, secured in set-up condition by stapling or stitching a strip 3 to one edge. Some or all of the panels may be apertured for ventilating and each apertured panel is folded over at one edge to form a projection 10 which is consolidated by staples &c. 11. The lid 15 is of metal or material similar to the sides, has flanges 16 engaging within the fold 10, has ventilating apertures 17 at the corners and additional apertures 18 to take flexible metal staples or strips 19 which are introduced before forming the folds 10 and are bent down to secure the lid. The lid may also engage within the mouth of the box. Wings 22, 24 fold in to form the bottom and are stapled or otherwise secured in place. The container is preferably filled from the bottom. The angles between the sides need not be right-angles and the sides need not be rectangular.
