[Class 38 (v).] A thermally - tripped overload switch for protecting electric motors comprises one or more bimetallic strips b traversed by current of two of the phases of the motor and adapted to engage arms e on a spindle d, rotating the spindle and causing an arm c to engage the releasing .finger f of switch mechanism g, the arm c being also bimetallic so as'to compensate for variations of atmospheric temperature. In some arrangements over or under-compensation is provided for but usually exact compensation is required so that the switch will always operate at the same overload. Specifications 196,147 and 234,654, [both in Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.], are referred to.
