Abstract

382,855. Striking mechanism fox clocks. ST€HLE, E., Schwenningen, Wurtemberg, Germany. March 10, 1932, No 7220. [Class 139.] In a clock having hour and quarter striking mechanism with a warning lever rocked by a quarter snail, the warning lever 8 is brought according to the position of the snail, into contact with a nose 22 of a locking lever 21 which engages notches in a quarter locking disc 11 or with a nose 29 of a regulating lever 26 pivoted to the looking lever; nose 29 being longer than nose 22. The quarter snail 2 or the minute arbor 1 has three equal teeth 3, 4, 5 for the quarters and a longer tooth 6 for the hour, which coact with a lug 9 on a warning lever 8 (forks 8<1>, 8<11>) pivoted at 7. A lug 1( on fork 8<11> coacts with a stud 35 on a wheel 34 of the quarter train. A quarter locking plate 11 (driven by the striking mechanism at an appropriate rate) has notches 13 .. 16, a cam 17 in advance of notch 16 and a pin 18 in advance of notch 15. Pivoted at 20 to the back-plate 19 is a locking lever 21 having an extension 21<1> with a nose 22 (for plate 11) and having a lug 23 which coacts with a cam 33 on the quarter train. Lever 21 also has a lug 24 which co-operates with a stud 37 on a wheel 36 of the hour train, and a part 21<11> which serves to release the hour train. A regulating lever 26 having a weight 27 and a slot 38 is pivoted at 25 to the locking lever 21, a screw 39 limiting its rotation. This lever 26 has noses 29, 30 coacting with edge a of lever 8, and pin 18 respectively. Plate 11 passes between these noses and nose 29 abuts nose 22. Wheels 34, 36 drive the flies of the quarter and hour trains. Lugs 10, 23, 24 extend through apertures in plate 19 to coact with their corresponding parts 35, 33, 37. When the minute hand is between the hour and the first quarter, tooth 3 lifts nose 9 and lever 8, so that edge a meets nose 29 of lever 26; the nose 29 extending below nose 22. This lifts lever 21, the lug 23 of which rises free of cam 33, so that the latter rotates in the direction of the arrow until stud 35 is arrested by lug 10. Cam 33 maintains lug 23 and lever 21 raised. At the quarter hour, tooth 3 releases lever 8, which falls ; lug 10 releases stud 35 and the quarter is struck, plate 11 rotating until nose 22 drops into notch 13. Simultaneously, lug 23 drops into the recess of cam 33 and stops the striking. At the half hour the action is repeated by tooth 4 and notch 14 ; and at the third quarter, by tooth 5 and notch 15. During the latter striking, stud 18 meets nose 30 of regulating lever 26 and rocks the latter counterclockwise from the position of Fig. 1. When the hour is struck, the long tooth 6 lifts lever 8 so that edge a raises nose 22 and not nose 29 which has been swung away. If necessary a notch 40 in edge a may be opposite nose 29 in this position of the latter. During the striking, pin 18 moves past nose 30 so that lever 26 drops again and nose 29 rests beside nose 22. Cam 17 lifts lever 21, through a larger angle than before, to release the striking train. The part 21<11> lifts the lever coacting with the hour rack and the lug 24 arrests the stud 37. When lever 21 drops the lug releases wheel 36 and the hour strokes are effected.
