Abstract
382,726. Mooring-buoys. SHORT, A., Mill Court, Ashford Road, Bearsted, near Maidstone, SHORT, F. S., King's Head Hotel, Rochester, (Representatives of SHORT, A. E.), and SHORT, H. O., Seaplane Works, Rochester, both in Kent. Oct. 2, 1931, No. 27427. [Class 68 (i).] A mooring-buoy for aircraft &c. comprises an annular body portion 10 of inflated rubber or rubber fabric &c., and a fair lead for the mooring cable arranged approximately coaxially with the body, the cable having an enlargement such as a ring or bead 16 to prevent its upper end passing through the fair lead. In Fig. 2 the fair lead comprises a belled tube 6 of stainless steel, hard wood, &c. which may be split longitudinally or divided transversely for insertion in the part 10 before inflation. In Fig. 3, a helical spring 11 forms the fair lead and is held by embedded rings 12. In Fig. 4, the fair lead 13 is attached to the chamber 10 by cables 14 and is cupped to receive the bead 16 on the mooring cable. In Fig. 6, the fair lead 20 is integral with the portion 10 and upward movement of the mooring chain is limited or prevented by a washer 22 and pin 23; metal sockets 21 take the wear.
