Abstract
To produce pig-iron having a fine graphite structure, molten grey iron, freshly tapped from a blast furnace, is superheated in a separate gas-heated furnace to a temperature above 1400 DEG C. and then cast into pigs. The pigs can be treated further in a cupola furnace in order to produce high grade castings. Specififications 247,941, 260,619, and 262,043, [all in Class 72, Iron &c.], are referred to.
