Abstract
382,299. Wheel tyres. THORBURN, H., 1189, Bathurst Street, Toronto, Canada. July 22, 1931, No. 20908. [Class 144 (ii).] A resilient tyre mounted upon a metal rim 1 comprises annular rows of spaced resilient blocks 5, reinforcement tension bands 7, and a tread cushion, moulded to form a composite structure by an operation which involves endwise compression of the blocks. The bands 7 all extend longitudinally around the blocks 5 and are of lesser width than the parts of the finished tyre where the bands are located. The bands 7 are provided with sufficient transverse cords to prevent undue transverse deformation of the tyre under load. The tyre is constructed in such a manner that the spaces 10 between the blocks 5 in the outer of two rows are at their widest part greater than the width of the blocks in the inner row at their narrowest part.
