Abstract

382,138. Arched buildings. DAVIDSON, L., Hewlett, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 18, 1932, No. 1477. [Classes 20 (i) and 20 (iv).] An arched building such as an auditorium, swimming bath, arena, hangar, garage, &c., without columns or other obstacles on the floor, is formed of a number of arched roof spans springing from floor level and provided with sub-segments 7, Fig. 1, to furnish additional head room at the springings for a balcony or stand. The arch segments 1, of wood or metal, are connected by shoes 2, and the end shoes 12, Fig. 4, are curved to roll on the bearer plates 13, and also curved at 15 to bear on curved or flat washers 17 on the ends of the tie rods 4. The tie rods may pass through tapered holes 14, or they may be paired or forked and joined by a pin.
