Abstract

An aqueous bitumen emulsion is mixed with a volatile organic solvent and an emulsifying agent and the mixture is re-emulsified, a pigment being incorporated after or during the reemulsifying process. Optional additions are drying oils, e.g. linseed oil, with or without siccatives and resins. Pigments specified are aluminium and copper powder, and micaceous iron ore. Solvents specified are benzine, turpentine, and the solvents sold under the registered Trade Marks "Tetralin" and "Decalin." Emulsifying agents specified are triethanolamine oleate, sulphonic acids, and naphthenic acids.
