Convention date, Aug. 15, 1930. Drawings to Specification. [Class 82 (i).] Barium or other metal is vaporized in an electric discharge device from a mixture of a reducing agent and a compound of the metal, the mixture being wrapped under oil in a metallic foil which is coated with a substance, e.g. collodion, insensitive to the atmosphere. The mixture may consist of barium oxide and aluminium or silicon or ferro-silicon, and the foil is formed of aluminium, tin, or zinc. The " pill " may be heated during exhaustion to vaporize the foil and subsequently further heated to generate the vapour.
