Abstract
A discharge-tube cathode is made by coating a metal of high electron-emissivity on a carrier of aluminium and then heating the carrier until the coating metal permeates and alloys with the aluminium. In one method, potassium is distilled onto an aluminium cathode which is then heated to 350-400 DEG C. in an inert atmosphere. In operation, the cathode has a surface-film of oxide.
