Abstract

378,680. Inspection chambers for drainage systems. WATERHOUSE, J. 0., 100, Cecil Street, Watford, Hertfordshire. Sept. 22, 1931, No. 26475. [Class 33.] Manhole bases or like gulley structures are made, e.g. of concrete, in a mould having interchangeable sections which are chosen to correspond with the angle, or angles, of entry of the branch gulley, or gulleys, into the main gulley. The Figure shows, in perspective, a mould section, the ridge 18 forming the branch gulley being set to form an overhung portion on the branch gulley corresponding to the recess 121. This ensures that water, experiencing a sudden change of direction in the gulley, will not overflow therefrom. The plane surfaces of the moulded structure slope generally towards the main gulley, this being effected by providing corresponding slopes 21 on the mould sections. The branch gulleys may be arranged in staggered formation to prevent water from one gulley from entering another. The branch gulleys may be formed with overhung walls on both sides.
