Abstract
429,928. Drainage; filtering. WILKS, R. T., 4, Hatherton Road, Cannock, Stafford-, shire. Dec. 5, 1933, No. 34123. [Classes 33 and 46] [See also Group X] A screen, for use as a separating screen for the treatment of sewage or as indicated at 12 in the storm-water overflow device shown in Fig. 1, comprises passages between the bars 15, Fig. 4, constituting the screen, which are inclined to their outer ends rearwardly of, or in a reverse direction to, the direction of flow, so that there is normally little tendency for flow through such passages or for the lodgment of material in said passages. The bars are formed from flat strips faced at 18 to present a substantially flush surface to the flow. The bars are secured to top and bottom connecting bars such as 14 which are provided with recesses 16 accommodating correspondingly-shaped projections upon the bars. Each bar may be slightly curved in transverse section. The storm-water overflow-device, Fig. 1, comprises an open conduit 6 arranged within a chamber 5 and connected at each end to the main drain ; a heavy flow of stormwater overflows the conduit 6 and passing through the screens 12 passes to an alternative watercourse via an outlet 10.
