Abstract
378,562. Wireless receiving apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and HUNTER, S. G., of General Electric Co., Stoke, Coventry. May 22, 1931, No. 15171. [Class 40 (v).] A switching device for a wireless receiving set comprises a shaft 1 which, when rotated into a number of different angular positions causes the selective operation of certain subsidiary devices, and also, by means of a cam 7 mounted with lost motion on the shaft, the engagement or disengamgeent of a spring contact 8 with a fixed contact 9. In the form shown, the shaft has five positions, determined by the engagement of a spring projection 26 with five depressions 25 in a disc 24 fixed to the shaft, and in one only of these five positions, viz. that shown in Fig. 2, is the switch 8, 9 open. The switch 8, 9 may be used to connect the set to the mains. The subsidiary devices may comprise five switches each operated by the sidewise movement of a ball 21 produced by rotating the shaft and bringing small or large depressions 23, 22 opposite the ball. The particular subsidiary switch operated depends on the angular position of the shaft and three of these subsidiary switches are wave changing switches for the valve couplings, one is a switch for shortcircuiting a condenser in series with the aerial lead and the other operates a gramophone pickup. The spring strip 8 has two end portions 14, 15 one of which breaks circuit before the other.
