Abstract

A plug-in time switch, with some similar features to the switches of Specifications 1,217,476 and 1,224,592, includes a twentyfour hour time driven dial 24 with adjustable switch-on and switch-off members 28, 29, for engaging radial on and off arms 72, 73, on a cam member 74 to cause a switch operator 99, Fig. 9 (not shown), rotatable with the cam member 74, to actuate the switch contacts 104, 105, Fig. 8 (not shown), with a snap-action caused by leaf springs 78, 79, engaging the sides of the cam member 74. Member 74 is movable longitudinally by a knob 30 to shift the arms 72, 73, out of the paths of the detents 64, 65, that extend from the arms 62, 63, of the members 28, 29, and prevent operation thereby of the switch contacts. Detents 86, 87, on the cam sides 76, 77, hold the cam member 74 in either of its alternate positions, the springs 78, 79, engaging the sides 76, 77, on one side or the other of the detents 86, 87. Radially extending arms 100 of operator 99 actuate a movable switch blade 103 to make and break contacts 104, 105. A synchronous motor 40 drives a shaft 51, Fig. 12 (not shown), for the dial 24 via a gear train 50, and a clutch spring 53 permits relative rotation of the dial 24 with respect to shaft 51, in one direction, for time setting purposes. The switch housing 11 is in two parts 17, 18, with interfitting bosses for holding the various switch mechanism parts in place when the parts 17, 18, are secured together, e.g. locating the motor 40, the switching blade 103, the fixed contact 105, Figs. 8, 10 (not shown), and the various terminals, Fig. 16 (not shown). Rotation of knob 30 closes or opens the switch contacts manually.
