Abstract

363,391. Sound recording or reproducing apparatus. FRIESS, H., 232, Friedrichstrasse, Berlin. June 11, 1930, No. 17901. Convention date, March 20. [Class 40 (ii).] Relates to starting and stopping devices for sound-recording or reproducing apparatus using two or more sound record carriers F, G, each of which is controlled by an electric relay A or B, held in position by electromagnets 22. According to the invention, the relays are connected up alternately by a central switch D and are each provided with two contacts, one 19 controlling the record carrier, preferably through electromagnets 27 or 53, and the other 21 controlling the change over of the central switch preferably through a working relay C. The central switch shown is of the rotary type the shaft 50 of which carries rings 1, 2, contacts 11, 2<1>, on which engage alternately with fixed contacts 24,51 or 9, 52 respectively when the shaft is rocked through 180‹ by an electromagnet 49 controlled by the working relay C. The closing of a switch 3 either by hand or by contacts on a picture film establishes first a circuit from a battery through leads 10, electromagnet 11 and return leads 13, 14. By the attraction of the bell crank 16, contact 19 is closed to energize the retaining electromagnet 22 and contact 20 is opened to break a circuit through electromagnet 27 and allow the record 35 to fall on to a continuously rotating turntable 36. The arm 18 of the bell crank 16 is so arranged that the contact 21 of the relay A is closed only when the switch 3 is again operated. The electromagnets 40 controlling the working relay C are then energized, contacts 44 closed, and a circuit established through the electromagnet 49 actuating the switch D the rocking of which cuts out the relay A and brings in the relay B. The contact 20 of this relay completes the circuit through the electromagnet 53 and causes its armature 55 to rise and stop the record 54. Lamps 32 or 58 are lighted to show which record is out of action. Electric pick-ups 65, 67 in association with the records are connected to a short-circuiting and fader switch E mounted on the shaft 50 of the central switch D. Fig. 2 shows a face cam 78 which is rocked through a small angle by the electromagnet 49 to cause the fall of an arm 77 on the shaft 50 and the clutching of the switches D, E with a continuously rotating pulley 74 which then rotates the shaft 50 through 180‹ until the cam 78 raises the arm 77 and declutches the shaft.
