377,488. Gas burners. DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE AKT.-GES., 578, Gladbacherstrasse, Krefeld, Germany. Sept. 14, 1931, No. 25755. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1930. [Class 75 (i).] In a burner for surface hardening steel pieces which yields a flame having a core of uniform height and which is of the type having an outlet slot c connected with the mixing chamber by a - channel which diverges in one longitudinal section and converges in the longitudinal section perpendicular thereto so that the end dimension of the divergence represents the length, and the end dimension of the convergence the width, of the slot c, the length m of the channel is greater than the length l of the slot. The area of the slot may be less than the cross-sectional area of the entry end b of the channel. The ratio of the divergence of one longitudinal section to the convergence of the other longitudinal section may be selected so that first a gradual increase and then a gradual decrease of the crosssectional area of flow is produced between the end b and the slot. The diverging portion of the channel may be connected to a parallelsided portion of length n<1> and the converging portion to a similar portion of length n<2>, terminating in the slot. The walls of the burner may be thickened and may contain channels i for the circulation of water for cooling purposes. The burner may be supplied with acetylene and oxygen.
