Abstract
377,289. Turbines ; flywheels. BAILEY, R. W., 20, Grange Avenue, Hale, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. April 24, 1931, No. 12201. [Classes 110 (iii) and 122 (i).] A turbine disc, flywheel, or like rotor, in which the portion of the disc near the concentric bore is thickened axially, has one or more radially-extending grooves 4, 8, 9, machined in the disc for allowing inspection of the internal portions of the metal. A spring ring, or segments of a ring, 7, bridges the end of the middle groove, and may have portions of the disc caulked over it to secure the ring in position. In Fig. 5, circumferential grooves 14 are formed in the disc and the lip portions of the ring segments are forced into these. The radius of the parts 3 of the disc bore may be less than those of the outer parts so that only the two inner bear on the shaft. The grooves 4, 8, 9 may be machined before or after the final heat treatment of the disc, and may vary in cross section.
