Abstract
377,221. Condensers. ONWOOD, A., 23, Hambledon Road, Southfields, London. April 16, 1931, No. 11284. [Class 38 (ii).] The body of a highpotential condenser, utilizing compressed gas as dielectric, is in the form of a cylinder a of insulating material closed at its ends by plates c formed with grooves b to receive the ends of the cylinder a and provided with packing arranged within the container on the pressure side of the endplates to prevent the gas from reaching the end surfaces of the insulating cylinder. The packing may take the form of rings h pressed into the angle by coned plates f abutting against a spacing member g so that when the nuts k on a central rod e are tightened an airtight joint is obtained. The innei, low-tension electrode n is supported on and insulated from the rod e, an earthed guard sleeve o being separated from it by a small gap at each end. The high-tension electrode r is mounted on the cylinder a by outwardly turned rounded ends r\ and connection therewith is made by a rod s, with screw holding a contact shoe r<11> in place against the electrode.
