Abstract
377,188. Discharge apparatus. RUPPEL, S., 8, Palmengartenstrasse, Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Jan. 16, 1931, No. 1566. [Class 39 (i).] In the construction of combined cold electrode discharge tube and thermal and electrodynamically-actuated switch shown in Fig. 7, discharge electrodes 19, 20 are carried by thermal strips 22, 23 in the discharge tube and, under the conjoint thermal action of the strips and of the electrodynamic action of the electromagnet 25, 26 on the current in the strips, the electrodes are forced apart until they engage with contacts 21, 24. Contact 21 is permanently connected with electrode 20 and contact 24 with electrode 19 so that, when fully separated, the electrodes are electrically connected together. The discharge tube 8 may be mounted in the manner of a cartridge fuse, as shown in Fig. 8, with screw-type connection. The size of the carrier and of the cup-like end connections will determine the size of the tube and prevent the insertion of an unsuitable tube. The action of the tube may be observed through a cut-away portion of the screw cap 31 and end contacts. Specification 186,699, [Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.], is referred to.
