Abstract
377,020. Nonconducting coverings for heat and sound. JACKSON, A., 5, Carlton Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester, and CLEGG, R., 10, Kenyon Street, Dukinfield, Cheshire. Oct. 2, 1931, No. 27393. [Class 64 (ii).] A nonconducting covering for pipes, tanks, &c. is fluted on the side contacting with the protected surface so as to produce closed air spaces, the grooves b and intervening ribs c being rounded and of equal area in cross section. The grooves b may be continuous and longitudinal or circumferential and may be loosely filled with slag wool. When the covering comprises moulded sections, ribs on one section may close the ends of the grooves in adjacent sections. When the sections extend halfway round the pipes, larger ribs are formed where they join, as shown. A reinforcement d of wire netting or expanded metal may lie in the covering or in the alternate grooves and ribs.
