Abstract
160,990. Morshead, L. R. Jan. 17, 1920. Cooling-towers. - Upwardly-directed jets 11 of hot or cold water are arranged around the base of a packed open - draught tower to improve the flow of air into the tower and prevent dispersal of the water falling from the gridwork by cross currents of air. Additional upright jets 12 may be provided within the interior of the base of the tower to improve the draught. The jets may be located within passages formed by inclined boards 13, Fig. 2, and louvered boards or laths 14, arranged as convergent or convergent-divergent air-induction passages. The hot water coming from the pipe 1 is distributed from troughs 2, 3 in the ordinary way. Some of it may be led by a pipe 9 or through a pump 8 to a pipe 10 around the tower, or cold make-up water may be used. The outer nozzles 11 are fitted on this pipe 10 and the inner nozzles 12 are fitted on cross pipes 12a.
