Abstract

376,607. Exercising-apparatus. DUKE, J. R. H., Gledswood, Liss, Hampshire. Nov. 9, 1931, No. 31041. [Class 132 (i).] An exercising apparatus comprises an arrangement of springs and axially aligned handgrips such that not only the separation but also the approximation of the handgrips compresses one and the same spring or sets of springs. Tubular handgrips A, A are attached, one to a central rod B of non-circular section, and the other to three parallel rods B<1> spaced around the central rod. Abutment plates C, C<1> are attached to the free ends of the rods B, B<1> respectively, between which and a centre abutment D through which all the rods pass, are helical springs E, E<1> divided into sections by plates F, F<1>. The central abutment may be provided with flanges G so as to form a drum on which a tension string may be wound as described in Specification 360,453. The handgrips A, A<1> may be provided with loosely fitting sleeves of A<0> rubber &c. and may be slotted as described in that Specification, so that they must be tightly gripped when in use.
