Abstract

376,122. Electric lamps. CONOCE, C. and CONOCE, T., 23, Boulevard Anspach, Brussels. Oct. 19, 1931, No. 29031. Convention date, Aug. 11. [Class 39 (ii).] Bulbs.-In producing a reflecting coating of silver upon a part of the external surface of an electric lamp bulb or luminescent discharge tube and protecting the silver in known manner with a second coating of copper or other metal, this second coating is applied electrolytically. In an example the bulb is washed in a dilute solution of stannous chloride, rinsed in distilled water, dipped for 2-5 minutes at 18-25‹ C. in a silvering bath, dried, rinsed and copper-plated using a voltage of about 5, the silvered surface constituting one electrode. The silvering bath is prepared by mixing a solution, obtained by adding sugar to a boiled aqueous solution containing sulphuric acid and alcohol and boiling again, with a solution obtained by adding an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide to an aqueous solution containing ammoniacal silver nitrate. The electrolyte for the copper plating is prepared from copper sulphate, sodium hydroxide, and seignette salt.
