Abstract

375,560. Lip guards for drinking- vessels. WOLF, M., 104, 2nd Avenue, New York, U.S.A. July 6, 1931, No. 19439. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1930. [Class 128.] A device of the kind comprising a U-shaped shield adapted to be placed over the edge of a drinking- vessel has its outer limb provided with a severable extension 14, Fig. 3, which may be torn off along a perforated line to serve as an indication that the device has been used. The lower part 15 of the extension may serve as a pay check. In a modification, Fig. 2, an extension of the outer limb is rolled up as at 7 and fastened by a sticky label 8 to hold a straw S. A further slot 9 may carry another straw. In a further modification the inner limb is provided with a horizontal extension which has holes or slots to support straws or spoons in the drinking- vessel. The device may be formed of paper, celluloid, rubber, glass, porcelain, &c. and may be held in position by clasps or other fastening means. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also modifications wherein the device consists of either a plain or creased shield ; the shield may have a projection extending above the rim to serve as a drinking surface and may be held in position by a U-shaped metal clip or a ring-shaped band. The device is also described as applied to a spoon. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
