Discharge devices.-A detachable spout for jars and like vessels has a flange g, Fig. 1, curved to conform approximately to the curvature of the vessel and also hollowed forming a channel adapted to receive a packing strip d of india-rubber &c. held in place by a wire e the ends of which are bent outwardly over the ends of the flange. The strip d overlaps the flange at its upper and lower edges thus preventing the passage of liquid between the spout and the outside of the vessel. The upper edge may be enlarged and formed into a bead or bridge, as shown for example in Figs. 7 and 8, the strip d in the latter Figure being suitably shaped to occupy a curved channel in the flange g and the wire e being dispensed with. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 9, the strip d is applied to the upper surface of the spout, a flat metal strip e taking the place of the wire. A construction is also described in which the spout is attached to the vessel by hollow india-rubber suckers instead of by resilient clips c.
