Abstract

374,932. Valves. ANTHONY, T. E. and PALATINE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., Hawthorne Road, Bootle, Lancashire. March 17, 1931, No. 8124. [Class 135.] To regulate the quantity of sterilizing fluid delivered to a water-supply main, a disc sliding in an open truncated cone sets up angular movements in a cam or pinion which through a lever operates a valve controlling the supply of sterilizing fluid. The disc 1, Fig. 1, which slides in the truncated cone 2a interposed in the main 2 is connected by a flexible cord 3 to a pulley 4 mounted on a spindle 5. The disc 1 is counterbalanced by a weight 6 hung from a pulley 7. A cam 8, Fig. 3, is secured to the spindle 5 eccentric to its axis. A roller 11 on the end of a lever 12 pivoted at 13 to a casing 14 engages a slot 9 in the cam 8 so that when the disc 1 falls due to a decrease in the flow in the main, the cam 8 moves in a clockwise direction and the lever 12 presses a plunger 19 inwards. The plunger actuates a needle valve 18 secured to a flexible diaphragm 17. The casing 14 is provided with an inlet 15 and an outlet 16 for the sterilizing- fluid. A spring 20 may be provided to urge the lever towards the plunger 19. In a modification, a snail cam is used and a double-arm lever has a roller at one end which engages a notch in the valve spindle. In a further modification, a pinion on the spindle 5 engages toothed gearing on the boss of a rocking lever, the ends of which are connected by cords to plungers operating in cylinders located in similar vessels, one containing sterilizing fluid and the other water. The vessels communicate by pipes containing check valves with a common pipe leading to the main fluid stream. An increase in flow in the latter causes a port in the cylinder of the vessel containing sterilizing-fluid to be uncovered and a corresponding port in the other cylinder to be covered a corresponding amount. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 13130/09, [Class 8 (i), Air and gases, Compressing &c.].
