[Class 4.] A device for use in winding a model aeroplane comprises a box shaped to engage the aeroplane and hold it against rotation, two rotatable spindles being mounted in the framework or box, one receiving a winding handle- and the other shaped to engage the airscrew and the two being interconnected by multiplying gearing. Figs. 1 and 2 show an aeroplane of the type described in Specification 353,927 housed in a rectangular cardboard box 1 serving both for transport and for winding. Spindles 3, 4 are carried by a metal casing 2, spindle 3 being squared to receive a detachable winding handle 6 and spindle 4 carrying a winding arm 15. Gear wheels 7, 8 are mounted on spindles 3, 4 respectively, a spring pawl 9 preventing reverse rotation of the gears. The aeroplane fuselage 1 rests in slots formed in a cardboard cradle 13 and projects forwardly through a slot 11 in a cardboard partition 12 shaped to provide two compartments 16, 17, one serving to house the key 6 and the other a spare elastic motor. The cradle 13 may be shaped from a single sheet of cardboard and is stated to strengthen the box against lateral crushing. The sides of the box are cut away at 14 to allow the wings to be fitted. These are normally stored as shown at 23 on the sloping sides of cradle 13 and are retained by cut-out tongues 21, 22 and by the stub spars of these wings which project from the fuselage. To wind the motor the fuselage is slidden forwardly to engage the air-screw spindle with a socket or spindle 4 and one airscrew blade with the arm 15. The latter is shaped so as to cause a forward pull on the airscrew during winding. The box is closed by a cover 24. When more than one air-screw is fitted, winding arms are provided for each screw and are driven by gearing or by chains, one of which may, if necessary, be crossed, from the winding spindle. Bevel and crown gear wheels may be used for the multiplying gear. A revolution counter may be provided.
