Abstract

373,721. Gravity-separation apparatus. COCKBURNS, Ltd. and MACNICOLL, D., Clydesdale Engineering Works, Cardonald, near Glasgow. April 13, 1931, Nos. 10768/31 and 276/32. [Class 46.] Steam separators which may be employed with other fluids such as feedwater from which grit is to be deposited, comprise a pipe fitting 1 having coaxial inlet and outlet ends 3, 5, of which the inlet end merges into a convergent nozzle 2 inclined at an acute angle to the normal line of flow of the steam and directed towards a precipitation pocket 4 located at the bottom of the fitting. The inlet and outlet branches are of the same internal diameter. One of the Provisional Specifications refers to a diverging nozzle through which the separated steam passes to the outlet.
