Abstract

373,634. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. and BEDFORD, L. H., Connaught House, Aldwych, London. Feb. 26, 1931, No. 6029. [Class 39 (i).] In full-wave rectifiers comprising two coaxial anodes and a common indirectly heated cathode 5, each anode has a cooling fin 2 and is supported by rods 3 parallel to the axis of the cathode on one side only thereof. The clearance between each anode and the cathode is of the order of 25 mils or less, preferably 15 mils. Each anode is L-shaped and comprises the tubular part 6 around the cathode and the extended fin 2 grooved to receive the rods 3. The electrodes are steadied by a mica cross-piece 4 at the top and a second crosspiece may be arranged above the pinch 1. Alternatively, the cross-piece may be of metal with insulating bushes. The cross-pieces may be clipped to the outer rods 3 and may guide the other rods and the cathode supports slidably. Electrostatic screens may be placed between each part 6 and the fin 2 of the other anode and between the two parts 6. The discharge may take place in a high vacuum or in a rare gas or metal vapour.
