Abstract
372,335. Pipe couplings. KœRTÍSSY, L., 14, Bellevuestrasse, Berlin. Oct. 29, 1930, .No. 32477. [Class 99 (i).] In pipe couplings for railway vehicles of the kind having a rear part 42 carried by the vehicle coupling and a coupling head 41 movable relative thereto, the coupling heads are pressed together by fluid pressure within the pipe without the assistance of springs. The coupling head comprises a tube 45 having branches 61, 61<1> and slidable in a cylinder 43 the area of which is greater than the combined area of the branches. In another form the coupling head is connected to the rear part 42 by a corrugated rubber tube 49 having metal bands 50 on the crests of the corrugations. The sealing means comprises a rubber tube 60 in the branch 61<1> which enters the branch 61 of the other coupling head and is expanded against it by fluid pressure. The end of the tube 60 may abut against an external conical seat 64 in the branch 61, or an internal conical seat 68 which may be formed on a spring- pressed member 69.
